The Montforts – A History Steeped In Theatre
1962 – Eileen Nolan amalgamates two choral verse speaking groups from Pres. Boys school on the Western Road and South Pres. Girls school in Douglas St. to participate in Feis Maitiu.
1963 – The newly formed choral verse group win competitions across Ireland.
1964 – The choral verse group perform in a concert in the Mercy Covent in Roscarbery. After the verse speaking there is a call for a song and the Montfort duly oblige with Michael Casey conducting. The group perform their first ever song 'Don’t Let The Rain Come Down'. The group did not have a name so director Eileen Nolan's house Montfort proved inspirational. They are known as 'The Montfort Choral and Verse Group'.
1965 – Under the guidance of Gillian Stephens and Musical Director Michael Casey the Montforts present a 'Black & White Minstrel revue' show in the Fr. Matthew Hall.
1966 – The new Opera House opens and a group of Montforts are engaged as the chorus for the Jack Cruise Show - 'Cruise Inn'. They also provide two choruses for panto in the Fr. Matthew Hall - 'Red Riding Hood' and the Opera House - 'Cinderella'. The Montforts present their second revue in the Fr. Matthew Hall.
They present their first musical revue show in the Opera House 'Excess Baggage'. Pat Murray designs for the Montforts for the first time. It guest starred Olive Jones, Kevin Owens and Noel Murphy.
1967 – Cork Opera House produce a brand new revue 'The Swans of the Lee' by Paudie Harris which features the Montforts and so begins an assocation for the next 5 years
The Montforts perform with 'the Swans' as it was affectionately known twice a year until 1970 and once in 1971.
The group charter a plane to Blackpool and win 1st and 2nd place in the Blackpool Choral Festival.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Jack and the Beanstalk' starring the legendary Paddy Cotter, Paddy Coughlan and Paddy Comerford.
1968 – The Montforts appear in their third and fourth Swans show.
The Montforts join Marjorie Manners for her highly successful “Old Tyme Music Hall” at the Opera House.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Aladdin' starring the Cork comedians Noel Barrett and Pat O' Sullivan and Tommy Dynes.
1969 – The Montforts appear in their fifth and sixth Swans show.
“Old Tyme Music Hall” returns to the Opera House with Marjorie Manners and the Montforts.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Red Riding Hood' with panto dame Paddy Cotter and directed by James Stack.
1970 – The Montforts appear in their seventh and eighth Swans show.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Robinson Crusoe' directed by James Stack and starring Dublin actor Cecil Sheehan.
Margaret O' Farrell becomes the Montfort secretary and remains for the next 50 years.
1971 – The Montforts appear in their nineth and final Swans show.
The Montforts record “Butterfly” written by D. Gerard, R. Bernet and H. Barnes. The lead vocals were by Cathal Dunne and produced by Michael Casey.
The Montforts join the cast of the first “Summer Revels” and remain an integral part for the next 21 years.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Cinderella' directed for the first time by Jimmy Belchamber and starring the inimitable Paddy Comerford and Billa O' Connell as the Ugly Sisters and Montfort Barry O' Reilly also features as a principal.
1972 – One of the most exciting and ambitious phases for the Montforts begin when they perform for the first time with the Little Theatre Group from Jefferson City in 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' and 'The Fantasticks' both at Cork Opera House.
They make their television debut in 'Reach For The Stars' on RTE. The Montforts come second!
The Montforts appear in their second 'Summer Revels'.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Mother Goose' directed by by Jimmy Belchamber and in the principal line up were Montforts Valery Horan, Barry O' Reilly and Mary Weston as the Goose! Mary enjoys a 40 year career with the school teaching drama & dance.
1973 – The group are invited to participate in the Easter production of “The Wizard Of Oz” at the Opera House directed by Jimmy Belchamber with choreography by Joan Denise Moriarty.
Cashs of Cork present a 'Gala Performance' at Cork Opera House featuring the Montforts and David McInerney.
Sheila Healy joins the Montforts as Costume Designer & Wardrobe Mistress and so begins a happy relationship from 1973 - 2013.
The Montforts appear in the Cork Opera House panto 'Goldilocks and the three Bears' directed for the first time by Larry Oaks. Deirdre Warren (White) played the role of Maura. Valery Horan also featured as the Fairy Queen.
1974 – The group present a memorable Scottish scene in a record breaking 6 week run of 'Summer Revels'.
The Opera House take a change in direction for Christmas and present 'The Wizard of Oz' directed by Jimmy Belchamber and featuring the Montforts with Barry O'Reilly, Denis Long and Jo Cronin featured in leading roles.
1975 - The Montforts appear in Noel Pearson’s Christmas panto 'Aladdin' starring Tony Kenny at Cork Opera House.
The Montforts are in high demand for cabaret appearances across Cork city and county.
'How Now Brown Bull' starring Cathal Dunne premieres at the Everyman Playhouse with music by Michael Casey and lyrics by Ian Fox with direction by Jimmy Belchamber. “The Montfort Singers came brilliantly into the limelight” – The Irish Times.
Ronnie O' Shaughnessy joins the group as resident Musical Director and so begins an assocation that lasts over 25 years.
1976 – A return to television in 'Best Sellers' narrated by Morgan O’Sullivan.
In May of that year the Montforts are pit singers for Noel Pearson's production of 'You Ain't Heard Nuthin' Yet!' starring Tony Kenny, Maxi and Eileen Reid. One week later they were backing singers for the 'Anna McGoldrick' show at Cork Opera House.
The Christmas panto is 'Jack and the Beanstalk' directed by Noel Pearson and starring Tony Kenny and Sandie Jones. The souvenir programme lists the names of all the Montforts appearing for the very first time - 17 ladies and 14 gentlemen.
1977 – The group come to national prominence appearing on Tony Kenny’s Christmas television show on RTE 1.
The Christmas panto is 'Aladdin' directed by Noel Pearson and starring Tony Kenny. Montfort Jo Cronin appears as the Genie of the Ring.
1978 - The Montforts appear in an evening of light entertainment with an Irish flavour 'A Touch of Irish' in the Cork Opera House.
The Montforts appear alongside Donie Ellis in the Savoy. Their version of 'McArthur Park' is best remembered.
The group travel to the USA for a three week rehearsal for 'Pippin' at the Cork Opera House presented by The Montfort Singers & The Catholic Guild of Jefferson City. The production also ran at the Richardson Auditorium in Jefferson City, USA. Leading roles played by Frank Twomey, Marion Wyatt and Deirdre White with direction by Fr. John Long and Musical Direction by Ronnie O' Shaughnessy and choreography by Edmond Wesley.
The group perform at the gala first night inauguration of RTE 2 at the Cork Opera House supporting Val Doonican.
The Christmas panto is 'Cinderella' starring Billy Boyle and James N. Healy and of course featuring the Montforts!
The group also featured in Billy Boyle's RTE TV specials in '78 and '79.
Laura Donahue choreographes 'Summer Revels'.
'Bon Voyage Spectacular' at the Savoy featuring Cathal Dunne, Cha & Miah, Billa & David McInerney.
1979 - The Montforts present 'West Side Story' at the Cork Opera House. Fr. John Long directs with choreography by Edmond Wesley and Musical Director Ronnie O' Shaughnessy. The show featured principals from the Montfort ranks alongside guest performers from Jefferson City. “One of the most electrifying nights the Cork Opera House has seen” – Cork Examiner.
The Montforts again return to panto for 'Dick Whittington' with Montforts Frank Twomey, Kevin Ryan, Jo Cronin and Tony Callnan in the principal line-up. Colin Baker (who played Doctor Who) plays the title role.
1980 – 'Hello Dolly' at the Cork Opera House with Wyn Riley taking the title role. Othe principal Montforts include Mary Weston, Helen Murphy, Deirdre White and Denis Long. The production was directed by Fr. John Long, Musical Director Ronnie O' Shaughnessy and choreography by Edmond Wesley. “This production is as exciting a piece of theatre as one could hope to enjoy” – Cork Examiner.
The Montforts appear in 'Festival Frolics' at the Cork Opera House featuring Mon Murphy, Frank Duggan and Teresa Griffin.
The RTÉ production of 'Rock Nativity' by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent in which the Montforts supply the musical choral ensemble for the production. Deirdre White played the coveted role of Mary. The programme was choreographed by Larry Oaks.
Some of the teenager Montforts sing on Brendan Cauldwell's album 'Where Have All the Years Gone'. It also features soloists Michael Ahern, Frances Walsh and Elaine Carlile.
The Montforts continue their association with the panto at Cork Opera House appearing in 'Babes in the Wood'.
1981 – The Montforts present the classic 'Oklahoma' at the Cork Opera House starring Mary Weston, Roger Kugler, Elaine Carlile and Valerie O' Leary to name but a few.
The Christmas offering at Cork Opera House is 'Robinson Crusoe' once again featuring the Montforts.
1982 – The Montforts return to Jefferson City for their second American trip.
The Montfort 'Salute To Youth' runs 5 nights in the Cork Opera House. The 'Salute To Youth' show runs for the next 11 years.
1983 – 'Mame' at the Cork Opera House with Anita Reeves taking the title role and a memorable performance by the then Montfort Musical Director Ronnie O’Shaughnessy as Vera Charles. It also starred Deirdre White, Hugh Lee and Joe O' Gorman. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Clinton King Jnr. and Musical Direction by Jack Murphy. “Mame a triumph for all concerned” -The Cork Examiner.
1984 – The group showcase their versatility with a production of' Little Women' at the Everyman Playhouse directed by Marion Wyatt. “Alcott’s adaptation tugs at the heartstrings” - Cork Examiner.
'My Fair Lady' at Cork Opera House featured the Montforts in lead roles and as the chorus. Jimmy Belchamber directed with Michael Twomey as Professor Higgins and Brid Hartnett as Eliza.
The 'Salute to Youth' show runs for 6 nights in the Opera House with over 2000 students appearing!
1985 – The group produce another full scale musical 'No No Nanette' at the Cork Opera House. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Michael Simms. Another straight play production 'Love From Judy' is presented at the Everyman Playhouse directed by Marion Wyatt.
The Montforts perform in the 'Cork 800 Inaugural Concert' at City Hall conducted by Proinnsias O Duinn and an album is released.
1986 – 'Camelot' at the Cork Opera House. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Joan Denise Moriarty. Designed by Pat Murray with Musical Direction by Ronnie O'Shaughnessy. “A magnificent performance of Camelot closed to six curtain calls and a standing ovation” – Cork Examiner.
1987 – The Montforts provide senior and junior choruses for an Easter production of 'Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs' by leading UK pantomime company – Albemarle. Montforts Michael McCarthy & Barry O’Reilly takes leading roles.
1988 – The Montforts travel to Wales for 'A Celtic Evening In Swansea' featuring the Montforts & the Hennessys.
Once again the Montforts provide senior and junior choruses for an Easter production of 'The Pied Piper'. Montforts Pat O' Regan takes the title role and also features Shirley McCarthy, Barry O' Reilly and Ian McGuirk as the lame boy.
'An Evening With Gershwin & Lloyd Webber' at the Cork School Of Music.
'The Music Man' at the Cork Opera House. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Jenny Kleigel. Tony Durkin made a welcome return to take the title role. “Montforts take Music Man in their stride” – Cork Examiner.
1989 – 'An Evening With Noel Coward & Broadway Showstoppers' at the Cork School Of Music directed by David Gordon and MD Ronnie O' Shaughnessy.
1990 – 'An Evening With Cole Porter & Neil Diamond' at the Cork School Of Music directed and choreographed by David Gordon with Musical Direction by Michael Casey.
The Montforts appear in the Opera House Christmas panto 'Goldilocks & the three Bears' featuring John Daly and Ian McGuirk. This year's appearance will mark 23 years as the ensemble / chorus for the annual panto.
1991- The Montforts become regular guests in Jury’s cabaret. The majority of the cast for the record breaking 6 week run of 'Annie' at the Cork Opera House emanate from the Montfort ranks including sisters Elaine & Eilish Symons who played Annie and Molly respectively. It also features Elaine Carlile as Grace Farrell, Rebecca Allman as Lily, Philip McTeggart Walsh as Rooster, Deirdre White as Mrs. Pugh and Trevor Ryan as Drake.
1992 – 'The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas' at the Everyman Palace. Directed by Fr. John Long and choreographed by Stan Kmeic.
The Montforts diversify once again and present their first all children Christmas panto 'Little Red Riding Hood' at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Valerie O’Leary and Trevor Ryan. Joy Florish took the title role.
'Steel Magnolias' at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Valerie O' Leary.
Eileen Nolan appointed as the Grand Marshall by the Chamber of Commerce for the St. Patrick's Dat parade in Cork.
1993 – 'I Can Do That' at the Cork School Of Music directed by Fr. John Long with Musical Direction by Michael Casey and Chorus Mistress Ronnie O' Shaughnessy.
'Steel Magnolias' is revived for a second time given it's success the previous year.
'Crimes Of The Heart' at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Pat Talbot, and their second annual Christmas panto - 'Humpty Dumpty' at the Cork Arts Theatre.
1994 – The award winning 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' directed by Trevor Ryan and 'Santa In Space' at the Cork Arts Theatre.
The Montforts present 'Grease' at the Firkin Crane theatre and plays to capacity houses with John Sheahan taking the lead as Danny Zuko and Shirley McCarthy as Sandy. Others featured include Julie O' Riordan, Rebecca Allman, Jason Leland and Rachel Ryan. Directed and choreographed by Philip McTeggart Walsh. “Montfort tops with Grease!” – Cork Examiner.
1995 – 'Jerry’s Girls', 'Bad Seed' and 'The Gingerbread Lady' all at the Corks Arts Theatre. Following a sell out run 'The Gingerbread Lady' transfers to the Cork Opera House.
'Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' opens in the Firkin Crane.
'Babes in the Wood' is the Montfort panto directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
1996 – Dramas 'Our Day Out' and 'Sylvia' play at the Cork Arts Theatre.
'Sleeping Cutie' is the Montfort panto for this year and is directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
1997 – 'Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' returns to the Everyman Palace followed by performances in Rennes, France.
'Jack & the Beanstalk' is the Montfort panto directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
1998 – 'Cinderella' goes to the ball at the Cork Arts Theatre, directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
1999 – 'Aladdin' lands at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
The Montforts make a long overdue return trip to Jefferson City.
2000 – 'West Side Story' makes a triumphant return to the Everyman Palace with electrifying choreography by Michael Steuber.
'On Broadway' presented by the Jefferson City Performers USA and the Montforts light up the Everyman Theatre during the summer with direction by Wyn Riley.
'Our Day Out' also makes a welcome return and 'Alice In Wonderland' is the children’s panto for the festive season.
2001- 'Anything Goes' at the Everyman Palace Theatre sees Lorraine Manley in great voice as the iconic Reno Sweeney.
2002 – 'An Evening With Gershwin & Lloyd Webber' at the Everyman Palace Theatre. Sadly this is the last Montfort show directed by the late David Gordon.
'Pinocchio' is the festive offering in the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Deirdre O' Riordan, MD Christopher Hennessy and choreography by Mary Weston.
'Eclipsed' opens at the Cork Arts Theatre and subsequently transfers to the Everyman Palace.
2003 – 'Oliver' with choreography by the perennial Mary Weston plays to standing ovations and packed houses in the Everyman Theatre.
2004 – 'The Wizard Of Oz' at the Everyman Palace Theatre. “Wizard enchants audiences of all ages” – Cork Examiner.
'Proof' at the Cork Arts Theatre and a subsequent transfer to the Everyman Theatre. This production featured Karen Cogan, Joe O' Gorman, Ian McGuirk and Shevaun Hogan.
2005 – 'The Magic of the Musicals' triumphs at the Everyman Palace and sees the return of of West End and Broadway stars Michael McCarthy and Irene Warren.
2006 – 'Bugsy Malone' at the Everyman Palace Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan and choreographed by Mary Weston with Musical Direction by Pat Sheehan Corbett. The title role was played by Brian Fenton. Sadly this was the last Montfort set to be designed by the much revered Pat Murray.
2007 – 'High School Musical' opens at the Everyman Theatre and sells out prior to the show opening. The show was directed by Fr. John Long and choreographed by Jonathan Fitzgerald and starring Dane O' Sullivan, Sarah Burke, Valerie O' Leary, Laurie O' Driscoll and Karen Ray.
'Cinderella' returns to the Cork Arts Theatre with Karen Hackett directing.
2008 – 'Seussical' the musical opens at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Karen Hackett.
2009 – 'Annie Jnr.' opens at the Cork Arts Theatre directed and choreographed by Karen Cotter
A special tribute show 'An Enchanted Evening' to commemorate Eileen Nolan's long service to the arts in Cork premieres in the Everyman Theatre directed by Marion Wyatt and Trevor Ryan and featuring a cast of over 200 performers! Eileen Nolan awared Cork Person of the month for her contribution to the arts.
2010 – 'Ever After – A Cinderella Story' opens at the Cork Arts Theatre.
2011 – 'Once Upon A Mattress' opens at Cork Arts Theatre directed by Valerie O' Leary.
'Aladdin' opens at the Firkin Crane directed by Valery O' Leary and choreographed by Dane O' Sullivan.
Current and past Montforts Michael Sands, Carol Anne Ryan, Trevor Ryan, Ian McGuirk, Killian Collins, Valerie O Leary, Eimear McCarthy, Sally O Leary, Laura Mitchell, Eva O Leary, Ali McElhinney and Claire O Leary all take leading roles in 'The Sound of Music' at the Cork Opera House.
2012 – Trevor Ryan joins the college as joint Director and the school moves to new premises in Penrose Wharf.
The Montforts celebrate 50 years with a production of Disney's 'Camp Rock' in the Everyman Theatre and a celebration event for current and past members in the Blue Angel, Cork Opera House.
The Montfort choir perform 'Disney Dazzle' at Hayfield Manor and also perform in the Cork Choral Festival.
The inaugural 'Broadway Kidz' is produced in the Half Moon Theatre.
The Christmas panto in the Firkin Crane is 'Cinderella' directed by Trevor Ryan and choreography by Lisa Meany.
2013 - The college present 'The Magic of the Movies' at Cork Opera House.
The Montforts present 'Joseph and his amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' in the Everyman Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan and Musical Direction by Colm O' Regan. Lisa Meany, Amanda Sylvester and Amy O' Leary are the choreographers.
The Christmas panto in the Firkin Crane is 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' directed by Trevor Ryan and Laurie O' Driscoll. 600 children will appear over the 10 performance run.
2014 - The Montforts present an Easter show for the first time in the Firkin Crane 'The Witches' by Roald Dahl directed by Trevor Ryan.
The Montforts present 'The Little Mermaid' at the Everyman Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan, choreography by David O' Connor and MD Aonghus Joyce.
The Montforts present their Christmas panto 'Beauty and the Beast' in the Firkin Crane directed by Trevor Ryan and choregraphed by Karen Walsh.
2015 - The magical tale of 'Aladdin' flew into the Firkin Crane Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan and choreographed by Sarah Moriarty.
The Montfort Youth choir perform alongside Lionel Richie 'Live at the Marquee' in front of an audience of 4500!
2016 - The Montforts present 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' at the Firkin Crane Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan.
The Montforts present 'Broadway Kidz' and 'A Grand Night for Singing' in the Cork Arts Theatre.
The Montforts present the musical 'Fame' at the Everyman Theatre.
Their Christmas panto is 'Red Riding Hood' directed by Eoghan Moloney, choreographer Sarah Moriarty.
2017 - In the summer of this year the Montforts move to their current 7000 sq. feet studio in the Kinsale Road.
The annual musical presentation is 'The Addams Family' directed by Trevor Ryan, choreographer Sarah Moriarty and MD Carol Arnopp.
A drama production of 'The Wizard of Oz' lands in the Firkin Crane directed by Valerie O' Leary.
'The Sleeping Beauty' panto this Christmas is directed by Eoghan Moloney and choreographed by Naomi Luttrell.
2018 - The highly anticipated 'Legally Blonde' opens in the Everyman Theatre.
The Christmas panto is 'Jack & the Beanstalk' directed by Eoghan Moloney, choreography by Naomi Luttrell and MD Sarah Daly.
Michelle Cooke joins as Musical Director following in the footsteps of renowned past Musical Directors Michael Casey, Angel Clement, Fr. Fintan Murphy, Cathal Dunne, Ronnie O’Shaughnessy, Christopher Hennessy, Pat Sheehan Corbett, Colm O' Regan, Eoin Scanlon, Aonghus Joyce and Carol Arnopp.
2019 - The Christmas panto is 'Cinderella' directed by Trevor Ryan, choreography by Naomi Luttrell and MD Michelle Cooke.
2020 - COVID hits and the school is forced to close. Necessity is the mother of invention and the college presents a virtual 'Applause' show. It attracted so much attention that they followed it up with a second show weeks later.
The college stays engaged with it's students offering 100's of free online classes and Zoom workshops with West End performers.
2020 -The college remains closed for most of the year due to COVID restrictions, opening sporadically for ad hoc classes and summer camps. They continue to offer West End workshops and free classes.
2021 - The college finally re-opens after COVID restrictions are lifted.
2022 - The college presents an Easter panto 'Aladdin' in the Firkin Crane.
Eileen Nolan is honoured in the 'Lord Mayor's Civic Awards 2022' for her contribution to the arts.
'Applause 2022' returns to the Opera House with 1800 students appearing in the show.
The Montforts celebrate 60 years culminating in a gala concert at Cork Opera House - 1st September.

The Montforts join the cast of the first “Summer Revels” and remain an integral part for the next 21 years.

1973 – The group are invited to participate in the Easter production of “The Wizard Of Oz” at the Opera House directed by Jimmy Belchamber with choreography by Joan Denise Moriarty.

Sheila Healy joins the Montforts as Costume Designer & Wardrobe Mistress and so begins a happy relationship from 1973 - 2013.

The Montforts are in high demand for cabaret appearances across Cork city and county.
'How Now Brown Bull' starring Cathal Dunne premieres at the Everyman Playhouse with music by Michael Casey and lyrics by Ian Fox with direction by Jimmy Belchamber. “The Montfort Singers came brilliantly into the limelight” – The Irish Times.
Ronnie O' Shaughnessy joins the group as resident Musical Director and so begins an assocation that lasts over 25 years.
1976 – A return to television in 'Best Sellers' narrated by Morgan O’Sullivan.
In May of that year the Montforts are pit singers for Noel Pearson's production of 'You Ain't Heard Nuthin' Yet!' starring Tony Kenny, Maxi and Eileen Reid. One week later they were backing singers for the 'Anna McGoldrick' show at Cork Opera House.
The Christmas panto is 'Jack and the Beanstalk' directed by Noel Pearson and starring Tony Kenny and Sandie Jones. The souvenir programme lists the names of all the Montforts appearing for the very first time - 17 ladies and 14 gentlemen.
1977 – The group come to national prominence appearing on Tony Kenny’s Christmas television show on RTE 1.

1978 - The Montforts appear in an evening of light entertainment with an Irish flavour 'A Touch of Irish' in the Cork Opera House.
The Montforts appear alongside Donie Ellis in the Savoy. Their version of 'McArthur Park' is best remembered.
The group travel to the USA for a three week rehearsal for 'Pippin' at the Cork Opera House presented by The Montfort Singers & The Catholic Guild of Jefferson City. The production also ran at the Richardson Auditorium in Jefferson City, USA. Leading roles played by Frank Twomey, Marion Wyatt and Deirdre White with direction by Fr. John Long and Musical Direction by Ronnie O' Shaughnessy and choreography by Edmond Wesley.
The group perform at the gala first night inauguration of RTE 2 at the Cork Opera House supporting Val Doonican.
The Christmas panto is 'Cinderella' starring Billy Boyle and James N. Healy and of course featuring the Montforts!
The group also featured in Billy Boyle's RTE TV specials in '78 and '79.

1979 - The Montforts present 'West Side Story' at the Cork Opera House. Fr. John Long directs with choreography by Edmond Wesley and Musical Director Ronnie O' Shaughnessy. The show featured principals from the Montfort ranks alongside guest performers from Jefferson City. “One of the most electrifying nights the Cork Opera House has seen” – Cork Examiner.
The Montforts again return to panto for 'Dick Whittington' with Montforts Frank Twomey, Kevin Ryan, Jo Cronin and Tony Callnan in the principal line-up. Colin Baker (who played Doctor Who) plays the title role.
1980 – 'Hello Dolly' at the Cork Opera House with Wyn Riley taking the title role. Othe principal Montforts include Mary Weston, Helen Murphy, Deirdre White and Denis Long. The production was directed by Fr. John Long, Musical Director Ronnie O' Shaughnessy and choreography by Edmond Wesley. “This production is as exciting a piece of theatre as one could hope to enjoy” – Cork Examiner.
The Montforts appear in 'Festival Frolics' at the Cork Opera House featuring Mon Murphy, Frank Duggan and Teresa Griffin.
The RTÉ production of 'Rock Nativity' by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent in which the Montforts supply the musical choral ensemble for the production. Deirdre White played the coveted role of Mary. The programme was choreographed by Larry Oaks.
Some of the teenager Montforts sing on Brendan Cauldwell's album 'Where Have All the Years Gone'. It also features soloists Michael Ahern, Frances Walsh and Elaine Carlile.
The Montforts continue their association with the panto at Cork Opera House appearing in 'Babes in the Wood'.
1981 – The Montforts present the classic 'Oklahoma' at the Cork Opera House starring Mary Weston, Roger Kugler, Elaine Carlile and Valerie O' Leary to name but a few.

1982 – The Montforts return to Jefferson City for their second American trip.
The Montfort 'Salute To Youth' runs 5 nights in the Cork Opera House. The 'Salute To Youth' show runs for the next 11 years.
1983 – 'Mame' at the Cork Opera House with Anita Reeves taking the title role and a memorable performance by the then Montfort Musical Director Ronnie O’Shaughnessy as Vera Charles. It also starred Deirdre White, Hugh Lee and Joe O' Gorman. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Clinton King Jnr. and Musical Direction by Jack Murphy. “Mame a triumph for all concerned” -The Cork Examiner.
1984 – The group showcase their versatility with a production of' Little Women' at the Everyman Playhouse directed by Marion Wyatt. “Alcott’s adaptation tugs at the heartstrings” - Cork Examiner.
'My Fair Lady' at Cork Opera House featured the Montforts in lead roles and as the chorus. Jimmy Belchamber directed with Michael Twomey as Professor Higgins and Brid Hartnett as Eliza.
The 'Salute to Youth' show runs for 6 nights in the Opera House with over 2000 students appearing!
1985 – The group produce another full scale musical 'No No Nanette' at the Cork Opera House. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Michael Simms. Another straight play production 'Love From Judy' is presented at the Everyman Playhouse directed by Marion Wyatt.
The Montforts perform in the 'Cork 800 Inaugural Concert' at City Hall conducted by Proinnsias O Duinn and an album is released.
1986 – 'Camelot' at the Cork Opera House. Directed by Fr. John Long with choreography by Joan Denise Moriarty. Designed by Pat Murray with Musical Direction by Ronnie O'Shaughnessy. “A magnificent performance of Camelot closed to six curtain calls and a standing ovation” – Cork Examiner.
1987 – The Montforts provide senior and junior choruses for an Easter production of 'Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs' by leading UK pantomime company – Albemarle. Montforts Michael McCarthy & Barry O’Reilly takes leading roles.
1988 – The Montforts travel to Wales for 'A Celtic Evening In Swansea' featuring the Montforts & the Hennessys.
Once again the Montforts provide senior and junior choruses for an Easter production of 'The Pied Piper'. Montforts Pat O' Regan takes the title role and also features Shirley McCarthy, Barry O' Reilly and Ian McGuirk as the lame boy.

1990 – 'An Evening With Cole Porter & Neil Diamond' at the Cork School Of Music directed and choreographed by David Gordon with Musical Direction by Michael Casey.
The Montforts appear in the Opera House Christmas panto 'Goldilocks & the three Bears' featuring John Daly and Ian McGuirk. This year's appearance will mark 23 years as the ensemble / chorus for the annual panto.
1991- The Montforts become regular guests in Jury’s cabaret. The majority of the cast for the record breaking 6 week run of 'Annie' at the Cork Opera House emanate from the Montfort ranks including sisters Elaine & Eilish Symons who played Annie and Molly respectively. It also features Elaine Carlile as Grace Farrell, Rebecca Allman as Lily, Philip McTeggart Walsh as Rooster, Deirdre White as Mrs. Pugh and Trevor Ryan as Drake.
1992 – 'The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas' at the Everyman Palace. Directed by Fr. John Long and choreographed by Stan Kmeic.
The Montforts diversify once again and present their first all children Christmas panto 'Little Red Riding Hood' at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Valerie O’Leary and Trevor Ryan. Joy Florish took the title role.

Eileen Nolan appointed as the Grand Marshall by the Chamber of Commerce for the St. Patrick's Dat parade in Cork.

'Steel Magnolias' is revived for a second time given it's success the previous year.
'Crimes Of The Heart' at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Pat Talbot, and their second annual Christmas panto - 'Humpty Dumpty' at the Cork Arts Theatre.
1994 – The award winning 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' directed by Trevor Ryan and 'Santa In Space' at the Cork Arts Theatre.
The Montforts present 'Grease' at the Firkin Crane theatre and plays to capacity houses with John Sheahan taking the lead as Danny Zuko and Shirley McCarthy as Sandy. Others featured include Julie O' Riordan, Rebecca Allman, Jason Leland and Rachel Ryan. Directed and choreographed by Philip McTeggart Walsh. “Montfort tops with Grease!” – Cork Examiner.
1995 – 'Jerry’s Girls', 'Bad Seed' and 'The Gingerbread Lady' all at the Corks Arts Theatre. Following a sell out run 'The Gingerbread Lady' transfers to the Cork Opera House.

1997 – 'Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' returns to the Everyman Palace followed by performances in Rennes, France.
'Jack & the Beanstalk' is the Montfort panto directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
1998 – 'Cinderella' goes to the ball at the Cork Arts Theatre, directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
1999 – 'Aladdin' lands at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Rosemary Daly, choreography by Mary Weston and MD Christopher Hennessy.
The Montforts make a long overdue return trip to Jefferson City.
2000 – 'West Side Story' makes a triumphant return to the Everyman Palace with electrifying choreography by Michael Steuber.
'On Broadway' presented by the Jefferson City Performers USA and the Montforts light up the Everyman Theatre during the summer with direction by Wyn Riley.
'Our Day Out' also makes a welcome return and 'Alice In Wonderland' is the children’s panto for the festive season.
2001- 'Anything Goes' at the Everyman Palace Theatre sees Lorraine Manley in great voice as the iconic Reno Sweeney.
2002 – 'An Evening With Gershwin & Lloyd Webber' at the Everyman Palace Theatre. Sadly this is the last Montfort show directed by the late David Gordon.
'Pinocchio' is the festive offering in the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Deirdre O' Riordan, MD Christopher Hennessy and choreography by Mary Weston.
'Eclipsed' opens at the Cork Arts Theatre and subsequently transfers to the Everyman Palace.
2003 – 'Oliver' with choreography by the perennial Mary Weston plays to standing ovations and packed houses in the Everyman Theatre.
2004 – 'The Wizard Of Oz' at the Everyman Palace Theatre. “Wizard enchants audiences of all ages” – Cork Examiner.
'Proof' at the Cork Arts Theatre and a subsequent transfer to the Everyman Theatre. This production featured Karen Cogan, Joe O' Gorman, Ian McGuirk and Shevaun Hogan.
2005 – 'The Magic of the Musicals' triumphs at the Everyman Palace and sees the return of of West End and Broadway stars Michael McCarthy and Irene Warren.
2006 – 'Bugsy Malone' at the Everyman Palace Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan and choreographed by Mary Weston with Musical Direction by Pat Sheehan Corbett. The title role was played by Brian Fenton. Sadly this was the last Montfort set to be designed by the much revered Pat Murray.
2007 – 'High School Musical' opens at the Everyman Theatre and sells out prior to the show opening. The show was directed by Fr. John Long and choreographed by Jonathan Fitzgerald and starring Dane O' Sullivan, Sarah Burke, Valerie O' Leary, Laurie O' Driscoll and Karen Ray.
'Cinderella' returns to the Cork Arts Theatre with Karen Hackett directing.
2008 – 'Seussical' the musical opens at the Cork Arts Theatre directed by Karen Hackett.
2009 – 'Annie Jnr.' opens at the Cork Arts Theatre directed and choreographed by Karen Cotter
A special tribute show 'An Enchanted Evening' to commemorate Eileen Nolan's long service to the arts in Cork premieres in the Everyman Theatre directed by Marion Wyatt and Trevor Ryan and featuring a cast of over 200 performers! Eileen Nolan awared Cork Person of the month for her contribution to the arts.
2010 – 'Ever After – A Cinderella Story' opens at the Cork Arts Theatre.
2011 – 'Once Upon A Mattress' opens at Cork Arts Theatre directed by Valerie O' Leary.
'Aladdin' opens at the Firkin Crane directed by Valery O' Leary and choreographed by Dane O' Sullivan.

2012 – Trevor Ryan joins the college as joint Director and the school moves to new premises in Penrose Wharf.
The Montforts celebrate 50 years with a production of Disney's 'Camp Rock' in the Everyman Theatre and a celebration event for current and past members in the Blue Angel, Cork Opera House.
The Montfort choir perform 'Disney Dazzle' at Hayfield Manor and also perform in the Cork Choral Festival.
The inaugural 'Broadway Kidz' is produced in the Half Moon Theatre.
The Christmas panto in the Firkin Crane is 'Cinderella' directed by Trevor Ryan and choreography by Lisa Meany.
2013 - The college present 'The Magic of the Movies' at Cork Opera House.
The Montforts present 'Joseph and his amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' in the Everyman Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan and Musical Direction by Colm O' Regan. Lisa Meany, Amanda Sylvester and Amy O' Leary are the choreographers.
The Christmas panto in the Firkin Crane is 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' directed by Trevor Ryan and Laurie O' Driscoll. 600 children will appear over the 10 performance run.
2014 - The Montforts present an Easter show for the first time in the Firkin Crane 'The Witches' by Roald Dahl directed by Trevor Ryan.

2016 - The Montforts present 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' at the Firkin Crane Theatre directed by Trevor Ryan.
The Montforts present 'Broadway Kidz' and 'A Grand Night for Singing' in the Cork Arts Theatre.
The Montforts present the musical 'Fame' at the Everyman Theatre.

2017 - In the summer of this year the Montforts move to their current 7000 sq. feet studio in the Kinsale Road.

2018 - The highly anticipated 'Legally Blonde' opens in the Everyman Theatre.

Michelle Cooke joins as Musical Director following in the footsteps of renowned past Musical Directors Michael Casey, Angel Clement, Fr. Fintan Murphy, Cathal Dunne, Ronnie O’Shaughnessy, Christopher Hennessy, Pat Sheehan Corbett, Colm O' Regan, Eoin Scanlon, Aonghus Joyce and Carol Arnopp.
2019 - The Christmas panto is 'Cinderella' directed by Trevor Ryan, choreography by Naomi Luttrell and MD Michelle Cooke.
2020 - COVID hits and the school is forced to close. Necessity is the mother of invention and the college presents a virtual 'Applause' show. It attracted so much attention that they followed it up with a second show weeks later.
The college stays engaged with it's students offering 100's of free online classes and Zoom workshops with West End performers.
2020 -The college remains closed for most of the year due to COVID restrictions, opening sporadically for ad hoc classes and summer camps. They continue to offer West End workshops and free classes.
2021 - The college finally re-opens after COVID restrictions are lifted.
2022 - The college presents an Easter panto 'Aladdin' in the Firkin Crane.
Eileen Nolan is honoured in the 'Lord Mayor's Civic Awards 2022' for her contribution to the arts.
'Applause 2022' returns to the Opera House with 1800 students appearing in the show.
The Montforts celebrate 60 years culminating in a gala concert at Cork Opera House - 1st September.
