Secondary Dance (12 - 17 yrs)
Our secondary dance classes will focus on students from the ages of 12 upwards. Classes are dynamic, adrenaline driven and offer training in many of the essential modern, jazz, commercial and contemporary dance styles.
Classes focus on advanced cardio vascular warm-ups and stretches, technique, cross the floor work and contact improvisation. Students learn and experience a wide range of exciting dance styles including contemporary, lyrical, jazz and isolations. The class will focus on advanced body and posture work, strengthening skills and exam based syllabus exercises and techniques. Students will learn how to use their body in a more fluid and energetic way. Classes are always fun and high energy. Throughout the term there will be new routines and new dance skills to be learned.
Our teachers are dedicated to bringing out the best in every student. Whether the aim is to improve co-ordination, to gain confidence and poise, to get fit through the joy of movement or to train for a professional career in dance every student is important regardless of ability. The achievement is participation in the wonderful world of dance.
Throughout the year our secondary dance students will have the opportunity to perform on stage! Firstly by auditioning for our annual pantomime which this year will be 'The Sleeping Beauty' in the Firkin Crane Theatre and our end of year show - 'Applause 2018' which is compulsory for all students where all senior students will perform a lyrical and modern/jazz number.
Each class runs for 1 hour and the mandatory uniform of leotard, ballet shoes and tights are compulsory.
Attire: All students must wear black. Girls and Boys; black leotard or T-shirt and black jazz pants. Proper jazz shoes are required. Hair must be secured in a ponytail or in a style that keeps the hair off the face. In addition character shoes (heels) may be required for performance. No student will be allowed participate in class without the required uniform.
I.D.T.A. Examinations
WE offer dance exams across the college. These examinations are optional but are recommended for all students in order to develop their dancing skills.
Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 Exams
Average age of completion: 15 years.
Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF): (Grade 3 - level 1 QCF, Grades 4-5 - level 2 QCF)
Grades 3 to 5 examinations are the progression from foundation level to an in-depth study of dance, developing technique, musicality and performance skills. These grades are also appropriate for the serious dancer preparing students for a career in dance.
